The recent trend in architectural rendering has been the pursuit of photorealistic, neutral images that mimic formal, stringent architectural photography. The result is an image culture around architecture where everything looks and tastes the same. Add AI tools to the mix, contributing with its own unmistakable staleness, and the internet becomes a perfect blank canvas where very few images stand out and are noticed.
The same is happening in music. New generations of listeners are discovering that much of today's music feels increasingly same-ish, while the past has a flavour and flair that feels exotic and full of adventure.
We made this image of the Whale Museum for Dorte Mandrup in 2019. The image is still a star because it dared to be different.
